Narwhal

Narwhals live in the Arctic Circle and are known for their long husks. As narwhals grow they change colors from blue-gray to blue-black. They live to be 50 years old. 

Nighthawk 

Nighthawks are nocturnal and hunt at night for flying insects. They make their nests either on the ground or on flat gravel roofs. They live in grasslands, savannas, woodlands, and shrubs so they can have easy access to food.

Newt 

Newts can regrow body parts like their tail, legs, and organs. Newts are amphibious and so they breathe through their skin. They are carnivores and eat worms, snails, slugs, and other prey. 

Nile crocodile 

Nile crocodiles live in the freshwater lakes, swamps, marshlands, and rivers of Africa. They can go weeks without eating anything because their stomachs are made to break down all parts of their prey’s body including their bones, shell, hoofs, and horns. Their stomach takes the important nutrients from the animal and stores them away making it possible for the crocodile to last weeks without eating.

North American Beaver 

Beavers are the largest rodent in North America. They are amazing swimmers and can last underwater for 15 minutes! Their teeth never stop growing so they gnaw on trees to keep their teeth from getting too long. Beavers are herbivores and like to eat woodsy plants. 

North American Black Bear 

North American Black Bears are the most common and smallest species in North America. They live in woodland and forests across the United States. Black bears eat mostly roots, plants, and small mammals like lizards, fish, and insects. They hibernate during the winter and feed off of the fat they have stored up all summer and fall.

North American Porcupine 

Porcupines use their thousands of quills on their back to protect them from predators. They are mainly active at night and are amazing at climbing trees. They eat fruits, leaves, and bark porcupines are great swimmers and can climb trees. . 

North Pacific Humpback Whale 

Humpback Whales are known for their song that can last for 30 minutes. They are about the size of a bus and can weigh up to 40 tons. They live to be between 45-50 years old and travel alone. They eat krill, sardines, mackerel, and anchovies.

Northern flying squirrel 

Northern flying squirrels live in forests. They prefer to live in cold moist regions. They can gracefully glide up to 300 feet, roughly the distance from tree to tree. They can control where they glide with their limbs and tails. They eat nuts, fungi, fruits, and bird eggs. 

Northern Mockingbird 

Northern Mockingbirds eat fruit, berries, seeds, and small insects like moths, butterflies, bees, earthworms, and beetles. They protect their territory and will change away other birds that invade their home. Mockingbirds can copy sounds that they hear, how cool is that?!
