Hair grow everywhere on your body except for the palms of your hands, the soles of your feet and your lips. The color of your hair depends on the pigment of the melanin found in the hair follicle. 

What is the Hard Palate?

The hard palate is made up of two different bones in the roof of your mouth. The tongue and the hard palate work together to form many of the sounds you make when you talk. Can you tell what sounds you make where your tongue touches the roof of your mouth?

What is the Hamstring?

The hamstrings are any one of the three muscles of the back of the thigh, between the knee and the hip. These three muscles cover both joints, and they help you flex your knees and extend your hips.

The heart is a muscle that lives inside your chest. Blood enters the heart through the right atrium, travels to the right ventricle and then goes to the lungs where the blood picks up oxygen. The hip flexors are a group of muscles that are on the top part of your thigh. Without your hip flexor you wouldn’t be able to lift your knees up to your hips. They are important in keeping your pelvic muscles balanced and your hip flexors are used every time you take a step to walk, run or dance.

The humerus in the long bone in your arm that is connected to your shoulder and your elbow. The head of the humerus sits next to the scapula bone to create the shoulder joint. The bottom part of the humerus, the trochlea, unites the humerus to the elbow joint so you can bend you arm to eat or give a hug.

What makes the Hyoid bone special?

The Hyoid bone is a bone in your neck just under your chin. It is the only bone in your whole body that isn’t connected to another bone. It is anchored by muscles to help give the tongue movement and aid in swallowing. The hyoid bone also helps keep your airways open at night so you can breathe when you are sleeping. 

Hip Hooray for the Hip Joint

Like it says in the song, “The thigh bone’s connected to the hip bone, now shake dem skeleton bones”. The top of the thigh bone has a ball shaped end and sits in the hole or the socket part of the hip bone. Together, the top of the femur (thigh bone) and the acetabulum (Socket) make up the hip joint. The joint is designed to have a wide range of motion. There is cartilage surrounding both bones to give protections and act like a cushion, and the hip joint is the most stable joint in your whole body.

Where can you find the Hyoglossus?

The hyoglossus is a thin muscle on the tongue. The muscle connects the bottom of the tongue to the muscles of the neck. It helps you stick out your tongue or move it from side to side.

Can you see your Hypophysis?

You cannot! The hypophysis is another name for the Pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is located at the bottom of your brain. It is the shape of an oval about the size of a chickpea. You need your pituitary gland to release hormones that control how you grow, manage your energy and also the level of your blood pressure.

Do we need muscles in our hands?

Hand muscles are responsible for all the movements our hands make. Without them we wouldn’t be able to move our fingers to pick flowers, play the piano or paint mom a picture. They help us extend our fingers and also make a fist. The hand muscles start in the underside of your forearm and are connected by tendons to the hand. Take a break and touch your forearm as you wiggle your fingers, can you feel the muscles moving?
