How to play Two Truths And A Lie
Two Truths And A Lie can be played with a group of people as an icebreaker activity. The group can be small or large but the optimal size is around 5-10 people. Anyone can play!
Each player will come up with two truths and one lie, (see categories below for ideas!) The members of the group will take turns sharing two truths and a lie about themselves and everyone will guess which two statements are the truth and which one is the lie.
After everyone has guessed, you can then reveal which statement was the lie. You can play as many rounds as you want!
You can choose to keep score or just play for fun. All my competitive people will want to keep score!
Tips For Playing Two Truths and a Lie
Here are some useful tips to help you have a competitive edge over the other members of the group. Consider using these tips to enjoy yourself and keep others second guessing!
- Keep your lie short and sweet. When you start overexplaining your lie, it becomes obvious that it is your lie.
- Never say your lie last. When people don’t have any idea what your lie is, they will naturally guess your lie last.
- Simple lies are more believable. For example, if I said, “Hi my name is Sue. My first car was white. I like strawberries and I like to eat Pancakes.” It will be really hard for people to figure out what is the lie unless they really know me and know that I do not like pancakes. But if I said, “Hi, my name is Sue. My first car was white. I drive a neon green car now and I like to eat strawberries.” Of course, everyone will then think the neon green car is the lie.
- If you are playing multiple rounds, do not always say your lie second. Mix it up to really confuse them.
- Use your best “poker face”. Don’t let your face give away your lie.
- Use a good lie that sounds believable.
- Know your audience. Make sure you pick lies that your audience will believe.
