Basketball is a really fun sport that’s played all over the world. It was invented over a hundred years ago, in 1891, by a man named Dr. James Naismith. He created it to keep his students active during the cold winter months. The first basketball game had a soccer ball and two peach baskets as the goals!

In basketball, there are two teams, and each team tries to score points by throwing the ball into the other team’s basket. The basket is pretty high up – ten feet off the ground! Players can dribble (which means bouncing the ball while running), pass the ball to teammates, and shoot it towards the basket. If the ball goes in, they score points! A regular shot is worth two points, but if a player shoots from behind a line called the three-point line, they can score three points.

There are some famous basketball players that many people know about. Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant are just a few of them. They have become superstars because they are really good at playing basketball. Basketball isn’t just a game; it’s also a way for people to learn about teamwork, staying active, and having fun!
